After 11 rounds of intensive battle, IMSA World Masters Championship chess rapid events completed today. Anton Korobov from Ukraine and Alexsandra Kosteniuk from Russian took the gold medal in a convincing way in men’s group and women’s group respectively.

Anton Korobov showed a great form and accumulated 1 point of advantage in first 8 rounds. Today he continued his hot streak in last 3 rounds. After drawing with Boris Gelfand in round 9, he clinched the gold medal with a round to spare by beating Dmitry Andreikin in round 10. In the last round, he drew smoothly with Bu Xiangzhi from China and won with 1.5-point advantage.

Le Quang Liem from Vietnam and Leinier Dominguez from USA both scored 7/11. Le got silver medal by superior direct-encounter result and Dominguez got bronze medal. The final ranking for Men’s rapid:

Russian players dominated the women’s group. Former women world champion Alexsandra Kosteniuk stood out from yesterday’s 3-player leading group and locked the gold medal with a round to spare by beating compatriot Anastasia Bodnaruk and Irina Krush from USA in round 9 and 10. In the final round, she drew with former women world champion Antoaneta Stefanova from Bulgaria and won the title with advantage of 1 point.

Another Russian player Valentina Gunina listed 2nd place with 7/11.

Two former world champions Mariya Muzychuk and Tan Zhongyi both scored 6.5/11. Mariya Muzychuk got the bronze medal by superior tiebreak.
